Before the Rooster Crows-What time is it anyway?

I think it’s time to go back to bed. Can somebody please tell this rooster what time it is? As many a cartoon suggests they only crow at dawn. You’ve got to be kidding me? Ours crow all day long beginning at 5am or so. I like my mornings quiet so I am beginning to get accustomed to rising before the rooster let’s out his first “cock-a-doodle-doo” of the day.

These are the three bandits that will rob you of precious sleep. They are beautiful for sure and my daughter loves them which is why we are still feeding them.

Why would anyone need a Roo?

Roos are good for fertilizing chicken eggs. You only need one Roo, not 3. We were duped when we purchased our second batch of hens and mysteriously found 2 more Roos. We named the Plymouth Rock (photo on the right) Britches. She was a beautiful hen. But OOPS! Wait! I should have known if a hen is that pretty it must be a Roo.

Roos can be used for show. They are certainly pretty enough. It might make me want to keep one more knowing he won ” best in his class”.  We could have his picture in a frame draped with a blue ribbon.

The only other reason one would need a Roo is if you had an early board meeting scheduled for 6am  that you couldn’t afford to miss. The Roo will sound off around 4:30 or 5:00 am. That gives you about 20 minutes of hitting the snooze button, 10 or 15 minutes for coffee, shower, dress and out the door.

Well, it’s 6:43am and I am scheduled to be at the milking parlor in 15 minutes with feed in hand.

HAPPY ROO, HAPPY ROO to You
